Accelerating the green maritime transition – the fuel conundrum

COP28 discussion | The global shipping industry accounts for three percent of global GHG emissions, through moving 90 percent of all trade. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has a strategic goal for the industry to reach net zero emissions by 2050.

The event will highlight and discuss opportunities and bottlenecks to reach zero emissions by 2050, focusing on strategies for scaling up availability and use of low/zero carbon fuels and infrastructure, and how to solve the chicken–and-egg paradox of making the initial capex investments needed to scale green maritime industry.

Through the event, examples of pioneering sustainability actions and international collaboration will be showcased as imperative actions to scale and accelerate the green transition for the maritime industry.
