Welding with lightning speed
The Norwegian export adventure for EFD Induction started in 1981 as a project at Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) in Trondheim, where electromagnetic energy was used for induction heating in an entirely new way. Since then, the Skien-based company has developed significantly. Today, it is Europe’s largest and the world’s second largest supplier of industrial induction solutions and has over 1,000 employees in 20 countries.
From Norway to Mexico
Over 90% of EFD Induction products are exported to foreign countries, and their technology is being used in everything from cars, planes and ships, coffee machines, kitchen appliances and the Norwegian chairs from Ekornes. One of the customers who has recently purchased an industrial welder (Weldac 750 Kw), is the Mexican company Maquilacero S.A., which specialises in piping and metal production of building components, agricultural equipment and for the automobile industry.

“When using the induction technology, the metal rises to a temperature of over 1000 degrees Celsius in seconds, with great precision. It is a fast and controllable process,” says Sales Engineer Øyvind Eriksen in EFD Induction. The benefit of induction technology includes high efficiency and rapid heating, leading to greater production volumes. In addition, the easy operation and design of the machine makes it is easy to integrate the machine into the production process.
Export financing
This is the second industrial welder that EFD Induction has sold with the help of export financing. Øyvind Eriksen believes export financing from Export Credit Norway was a crucial factor for both contracts. “EFD Induction is very pleased to offer Export Credit Norway`s favorable terms to our customers, and it is very likely that we will make use of the offer in the future,” he says. Export Credit Norway contributed USD 425 000 to the financing of the Weldac. The loan, which has a maturity of three years, has been guaranteed by GIEK (90%) and DNB (10%).
